Everyone Seems to Have a Story About a Stella Parlor Guitar

Nothing says Americana like a Stella Parlor Guitar. How many of you learned to play on one of these? Stellas were affordable, accessible beginner guitars and are still loved for their boxy, bluesy sound.

Stella Guitars date back to the turn of the 20th century and were owned by the parent company Oscar Schmidt. Harmony Company bought the Stella brand in 1939 and continued to crank ’em out up until 1974. Harmony used the Stella name for a number of guitar models but the parlor was by far their biggest seller.

They weren’t always great players but their quirky build quality was made up for in charming attributes. Take the stenciled fret markers and the painted on “binding” for example. And check out the sweet woodgrain sunburst finish! Ah yeah…

Some notable Stella Guitar players were Howlin Wolf, Skip James, Willie Nelson, Maybelle Carter, Robert Johnson, Son House, Elvis Presley and on and on….

This one has a trapeze tailpiece, floating bridge, original case and is in excellent shape. $225. Made in Chicago in 1966. #parlorguitar#harmony#harmonyguitars#stellaguitars#stellaharmonyguitars#Stella#bluesmachine#georgetownmusic#georgetown_music#Americana
