The Balalaika

The Balalaika is a Russian folk instrument in the lute family with a triangle belly and flat back. It utilizes 3 strings and a slender fretted neck with a pressure bridge and small sound hole on a hollow body. They come in six sizes ranging from piccolo to double bass, adjusting pitch to each size. Typically two strings are tuned to the same note and the other string is a perfect fourth higher.
